淀江町の民家を訪ねて
No.071㉗森田家住宅 森田家は淀江町中西尾の民家です。庄屋を務めた古い家柄であり、もとは醤油やみその醸造を生業としていました。報告書刊行時（1974）、その生業はやめており、醤油醸造場や味噌部屋などは解体され、露地門や裏手の土蔵2棟を残すのみだったそうです。主屋は切妻造瓦葺中二階建、間口9間×奥行6.5間の六間取りです。その当時の主屋は棟札により天保元年（1830）の再建と知られ、この幕末期に茅葺きから瓦葺きに替えられたようです。
報告書刊行時（1974）の世帯主さんが昭和50年頃に亡くなってから空き家となり、平成16年（2004）、森田家本家から、分家にあたる現世帯主さんが購入したそうです。現在は、旧建物群はすべて解体し、主屋を新築しています。古い建物をなにかに活用しようと考えたこともあったそうですが、費用の問題や息子夫婦と同居することなどをクリアするため建て直したそうです。
新築
No.070㉖田山家住宅 田山家は淀江町淀江の町家で裏手には水路が流れています。報告書刊行時（1974）の主屋は、切妻造瓦葺高二階建、間口6間×5間です。表側上手には道路に沿って板塀がたつ「仕舞屋構え」となっていました。報告書では建築年代を幕末と推定しています。
現在、水路側の土蔵は残っていますが、土蔵に隣接する建物群は改造されており、主屋は新築されています。所有者ご不在のため、少し離れたところに住む分家の奥様からヒアリングさせていただいたところ、当時の所有者が亡くなられてから息子さんが所有者になって今に至り、息子夫婦と二世帯で住まわれているそうです。【9月19日 完】
