『鳥取県の民家』を訪ねて（43）
2度目の重文「尾崎家住宅」
11月13日、水曜ゼミの時間を使って、会長さん、3年生５名とともに『鳥取県の民家』第３次調査対象民家39件最後の調査をおこないました。まずは湯梨浜町の重要文化財「尾崎家住宅」へ。私は2年生の人間環境実習・演習Aで尾崎家住宅を訪問したことがあり、今回約２年ぶり2度目の尾崎家となりました。ASALABは2005～06年度に調査に取り組み、2007年に『尾崎家住宅―建造物調査報告書―』を刊行しました。その成果をもとに、2011年にまずは県指定保護文化財の指定を受け、2013年に国の重要文化財に格上げ指定されました。

No.038⑭尾崎家住宅： 18世紀中期の豪農民家。入母屋造茅葺民家、背面の庇周辺のみ桟瓦葺きとしています。主屋は広間型五間取りに復原され、国名勝「松浦園」の作庭と主屋の建造はほぼ同時期とみなされています。
『鳥取県の民家』報告書刊行当時の45年前はまだ薪を割って燃やしている時代であり、尾崎家にある薪小屋を地域の人達が自由に使い、尾崎家もまた地域の人が取ってきてくださった薪の元木を利用していたそうです。稲木を置く場所もあり、これもまた地域の人達が自由に出入りし、地域の人との交流の場であったそうです。尾崎家と宇野集落のもちつもたれつの関係があった45年前から現在、各家庭にガスが置かれ、農家にはコンバインが普及し、生活スタイルが変化していきました。このようにだんだん、地域の交流の場を利用する人が減ってきたとのことです。
ご当主は45年前と現在について、最も大きな変化は「地域の人達が急速に高齢化したこと、このような大きな家に興味がなくなっている人が増えたこと」とおっしゃいました。「活用してほしい、公開してほしい」と文化庁から言われるのですが、本来活用というのは住み続ける事である、と考えておられました。住み続けることは大変で、冬場は寒く、エアコンをつけたとしてもサッシ窓でないためなかなか暖まりません。不便も多い中、現在はお母様と二人で暮らしていらっしゃいます。このように大きな家を家人だけで維持管理していくのは難しいものです。尾崎家が宇野の方々と共に歩んできたように、これからも住み続けて少しでも地域の人とかかわりを持ち、支えてもらいたいとのことです。
