『鳥取県の民家』を訪ねて（46）
新温泉町での民家調査
11月20日（水）、浜坂先人記念館「以命亭」に集合し、以命亭を調査する班と広瀬安美『兵庫の民家』(1974) 掲載の旧浜坂町上六軒の倉・民家を調査する班に分かれました。私は後者の班で活動しました。
まずはその倉と民家を探さなければなりませんでしたが、『兵庫の民家』には正確な住所や建築物の名称が載っておらず、また、この日は雨が降っていたことから、私たちは車の中で手がかりを探していました。すると、Googleマップのストリートビューで報告書に掲載されているイラストに似た建築物を発見したのです。そこに赴くと、探していた民家と倉が現存していました。

この民家は切妻造平入浅瓦葺であり、形状や窓の位置などは1974年のイラストとあまり変わっていません。『兵庫の民家』出版当時は、棟の熨斗瓦の代わりに薄緑色のを使っていたようで、この石は兵庫県下では浜坂周辺だけで使われていたようです。、他に多く見られる福井地方では「しゃくたに石」、出雲地方では「来待（きまち）石」と呼ばれており、軽くやわらかな凝灰岩で加工しやすいけれども、風化しやすいという欠点があります。現在はこの棟石をやめて熨斗瓦に変えており、風化が材料差し替えの原因の一つではないかと考えました。また、民家在住の方にお話を聞こうとしましたが、お留守でした。しかし、近所に住まわれている方のお話によりますと、この民家は築60年くらいで、Sさんという方が住んでいらっしゃることが分かりました。

上の土蔵は先ほどの民家の隣にあり、S家の一部ではないかと思いました。こちらも報告書のイラストとほとんど変わらない状態を保っており、切妻造平入浅瓦葺です。日本海に面した豪雪地方では、白壁や土壁だけでは雪に弱いので、板壁を使った補強をすることが多いそうで、倉や付属建物には「鎧がき」と呼ばれる板壁がつけてあります。これは、板を重ねて張った簓子下見（ささらこじたみ）板のことであり、この倉も鎧がきでした。また、この倉はかなり手の込んだ見事な漆喰のコテ絵が施されていました。
新温泉町井土の町並み
浜坂での調査が終わり、次もまた二班に分かれ、私の班は新温泉町今岡から待ち合わせ場所の湯村温泉までの道のりに古い家や空き家などがないか探すことになりました。私たちは、住宅が軒を連ねる新温泉町井土のあたりで下車し、周りを歩いて探索しましたが、比較的新しい住宅ばかりで特にめぼしいものは見つからず、探すのを諦め、湯村温泉に向かいました。しかし、その最中に入母屋造で屋根に鉄板を被せる民家を見つけましたが、時間が押していたため、調査を泣く泣く断念しました。もし、また新温泉町に訪れる機会があれば、ぜひ調査をしたいと思いました。
前回で『鳥取県の民家』第３次調査対象民家39件すべてを調査し終わり、今回は『兵庫の民家』の調査ということで、初めての鳥取県外での調査を体験しました。知らない地で知らない民家を探すのは大変でしたが、今もなお1974年のイラストとほぼ同じ姿を残しており、発見したときは感動を覚えました。調査にご協力いただいた皆様に深謝申し上げます。（ころっけ）
